The use of XLR cables for AES3 was intended to make the interface familiar and easy to implement. However, the construction of the cable is critical to achieve longer cable runs.
For this reason, in 1995 the AES defined an update to the AES3 protocol to permit unbalanced connections using BNC connectors and 75Ω cables, much like commonly used connections found in video technology. Called AES3-id, it has been widely adopted in broadcast and professional circles, and DiGiCo offers this AES format as an alternative.
This card offers users 4 stereo input and 4 stereo output AES channels over BNC connectors.
Features:
- 4 (stereo) AES input channels and 4 (stereo) output channels
- Sample rate conversion on inputs and outputs
- Accepts and provides AES signals on BNC connectors
- Compatible with SD-Range and 4REA4
- Designed to be hot plugged
